Our very own Toledo Opera is bringing the soul of Ethiopia right here to downtown Toledo. Before the curtain ever rises on Verdi’s Aida, there is a deeper history waiting to be uncovered. At the heart of the opera is an Ethiopian princess torn between love and home: a story of heritage, resilience, and belonging that hits close to home for so many of us.

Aida: Homelands isn’t just an event. It’s an invitation to pull up a chair, share a meal, and step inside a world rich with culture.

Here is what Toledo Opera has lined up for the night:

• The Feast: A full Ethiopian buffet catered by Detroit’s beloved Taste of Ethiopia.
• The Sound: Live traditional Azmari music weaving through our space.
• The Guest: An intimate conversation with special guest soprano Mariam Battistelli (Teatro alla Scala, Vienna State Opera), alongside insights from musicologist Dr. Ryan Ebright.
